After my recent attempt to push beyond my social comfort zone while travelling, I did some brainstorming. I wanted to find a photo concept that I could use to approach strangers without intimidating them. I came up with “hands.”
Tonight was my first opportunity to test out this theme. I told my friends to “do something with your hands” and captured their responses.
I really like these pictures. It’s neat to see each individuals expressions through their hands. Next time, I’d like to capture informal gestures rather than a pose.
So, what do you think of this theme? Should I approach strangers the next time I’m travelling and ask to photograph their hands? Please share your thoughts with me by clicking on the “Comments” link below the post.

This sounds like something that happened to my aunt: we were at the library when a man approached her with a camera and said that he was doing an art project on pretty feet, and asked to photograph her feet. She thought it was interesting but kind of weird...
So a hands themed photography project would be fun, but (of course) would need you to carefully pick subjects.
Jasmine: I guess you can't blame the desperate photographers. We are seeking inspiration! (Although I agree that the feet thing is kind of weird.) :)
