This is a very special plant.
Not just because it produces amazingly beautiful and fragrant flowers. (The blooms smell like almond and chocolate to me.)
It is special because it came from my grandmother. It started as a cutting from the hoya that used to hang in her kitchen window over ten years ago.
This is the very first bloom that I have seen on it (despite having it for over a year). I’ve heard that they bloom rather infrequently. I have discovered two more clusters of flowers that are well on their way to opening.
Isn’t it gorgeous?
I also have a much smaller hoya that I purchased as a souvenir from a botanical garden in Florida last fall. I think it has a long way to go before it starts producing blooms.
I’m nervous about moving my plants (which will happen on Monday as I head to southern Washington). I hope that they aren’t shocked by the transition. I look forward to more of these blooms to adorn my new home.
You can read more about the lovely hoya here.
