Back from NY: Sunset and Strangers (Sneak Peek)

I returned from New York at way-too-early-in-the-morning after a full day of travel. Awesome trip.

I'm culling through hundreds of photos that I took, but wanted to share a sneak peek with you.

The Statue of Liberty shot is SOOC (straight out of camera) with the removal of a few spots from my lens. The sunset was just that awesome. (Viewed from the Staten Island Ferry.)

New York is an amazing place to take photos of strangers - people are just so interesting. I'll have more to share soon.

The Plane

I have a day job and fortunately, it’s one that I really enjoy. I’m a system administrator for AeroMetric, a company that provides a host of geospatial services.

On Monday, I visited our hangar in Sheboygan, WI and took a few pictures of one of our planes and crew preparing for a mission.

I’m sure glad I didn’t have to fly that day. The weather was incredibly gusty. I had to use one arm to hold my hair down so it wouldn’t fly in front of the lens.

     

This photo expedition provided me with a nice break to my normal workday structure.

Friend + Camera + Portland

This morning, my friend Coralie and I went wandering in Portland with our cameras. (She’s got a Diana!)

She has spent a lot of time here and had great recommendations about places to eat, including an authentic French restaurant where we stopped for breakfast (she can verify it’s authentic because she recently got back from a living in France for a year), and places to stop and take pictures.

My almond croissant and mocha were delicious. And being able to sit there with a friend that I haven’t had a chance to just talk to and listen to was wonderful. She told me stories of her year in France – the exciting things she had done, the interesting people she met. When she moves back there, I hope I’ll be able to visit!

  

The weather was rather gray and it was fairly chilly. But we stayed warm walking and occasionally dashing into neat stores.

Above: I wish I would have been gutsy enough to take more pictures of people. The bicyclist on the left was waving as he rode by…. and here I thought I was being sneaky. Apparently not. As to the picture on the right, I find that I have recently become fascinated by pictures taken from above. So, a bridge was the perfect spot to capture a couple exercising below.

San Francisco – Things I Saw

I spent the last week in San Francisco for a work conference. I brought my camera along, as usual.
